I don’t know. But perhaps I ought not to take part in such considerations. Siverly did save my life at Quebec, and while that wouldn’t stop me pursuing a case against him… I think—no. I don’t want him dead.

Physical AppearanceEdit

Gerald was an imposing man, nearly as tall as Jamie, though a good deal older now and going to paunch. His face was slab-sided, the skin faintly gray, as though he'd been cut from the same rock as his house.[2]

  • Gerald is from a Germanic name meaning "rule of the spear", from the elements ger "spear" and wald "rule".[3]
  • Siverly is an Americanized form of German Sifferle, from a pet form of the personal name Seifer(t), a variant of Siegfried, derived from the Germanic elements sigu "victory" and frid "peace".[4][5]
