Summary[]
A desperate plan manages to free Jamie, but his wounds are more than just physical. At a nearby monastery, Claire attempts to save both Jamie's heart and soul, as his mind lingers on the torture.
Plot[]
The plan to save Jamie works. Murtagh, Claire, Angus, Rupert, and Willie find shelter at Abbey of Ste. Anne de Beaupré. Jamie was severely beaten by Randall and repeatedly raped. As Claire tries to treat his wounds, Jamie relives the brutality and rape he suffered at the hands of Black Jack Randall. Finally managing to break through to him, they realize they cannot stay in Scotland and set sail for France. Before they leave they bid farewell to Angus, Rupert, and Willie. During the voyage, before Jamie's seasickness takes hold, Claire tells Jamie that she is pregnant.
